November 7 - 10, 2016

This week ended with the Remembrance Day Assembly in the gym.

The Division I Choir sang, "Why Do We Have Remembrance Day?"

The Division II Handbells Club played "Purcell's Canon" with students from rooms 7, 8, 12 and 14 who played the following ORFF instruments:  xylophones, metallophones and glockenspiels.

Rooms 7, 8, 12 and 14 sang, "May You Dwell in Peace".

This week, in the staff room they continued to play ORFF instruments.  We did touch a bit on each of their inquiry questions.  With grades 1 and 2 classes, we discussed a balanced sound.  With grades 3 and 4 classes, we discussed how each of the ORFF instruments were connected.  This helped the students to focus on listening to each other besides just playing each of their own parts.  With grade 5 and 6 classes, we did discuss what success was as we were playing the instruments.

Friday 4 November 2016

For the past 2 weeks the students from grades 1 - 6 have been coming to music class in the staff room.  The xylophones, metallophones and glockenspiels have been in there and will be there for one more week.

The grade one and two students have mainly been working on proper technique of playing.  They have also played some rhythm patterns on them.

The grade 3 and 4 students from rooms 7, 8, 12 and 14 have been learning parts on these ORFF instruments.  They will be performing "Purcell's Canon" at the Remembrance Day Assembly on Thursday, November 10 at 10:30 a.m. in our school gym.

Our other grade 3 and 4 students have been learning about the Instruments of the Orchestra in preparation for their field trip to the Calgary Philharmonic Concert entitled "Peter and the Wolf" on November 17, 2016.  They have also been reviewing technique, rhythm patterns and and songs on them.

The grade 5 and 6 students have been reviewing playing technique, rhythm patterns and songs.
